It has been a little over three months since our firstborn daughter, Nora, came into this world. Other than the sleepless nights she brought upon us, what else can we think of? Her arrival changed everything—our pace of life, our priorities, and our understanding of love.
What makes this memory even more vivid for me is that I caught Covid only days before she was due. The first time I saw my daughter was not in person, but on a phone screen when my mother-in-law called me from the hospital. I told a friend not long after that moment that I would carry that first image of her—resting peacefully on my wife’s chest—until the end of my life. It was priceless, magical, heartening. Words will never be strong enough to capture how I truly felt.
A Home Studio Set Up in Cambridge
Fast forward a few weeks, we wanted to document these fleeting early days. Instead of heading into a traditional photography studio, we created our own Cambridge home studio right in our lounge. It was surprisingly simple. We laid down soft floor tiles and cushioning, added layers of pillows and blankets, and set up a clean backdrop against the wall. That little corner of our home became a warm space filled with light and laughter.
This is what I want to share with you—a home studio set up doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive. It can be as simple as using the comfort of your living room, creating an environment where both mother and baby feel safe and relaxed.
Capturing Maternity & Baby Memories
On this particular morning, we were running a little late (as most parents of newborns can relate!). By the time my wife carried Nora in, she had already passed her peak of morning playfulness. But even then, she was smiley, calm, and full of charm. We worked gently around her rhythm—between feeds, naps, and cuddles.
The entire session lasted just about an hour. And within that hour, we captured not only her expressions but also our feelings as new parents. The images are more than photos; they are living memories that transport us back to those fragile yet magical first months.
For families in Cambridge, whether it’s for a Cambridge maternity shoot or a baby’s 百天照 (100-day celebration portraits), creating a homely studio set up can be one of the most intimate and meaningful ways to preserve those precious moments.
A Lasting Memory
Looking back, I realise that these simple setups at home are not just about convenience—they are about comfort, authenticity, and emotional closeness. Every photo carries with it the story of where we were at that moment in our lives.
When Nora grows up and looks at these pictures, she won’t just see herself as a baby. She will see the love, tenderness, and resilience of her family, captured in the quiet simplicity of a morning in our lounge.
