A Taste of Tradition — Capturing a Chinese Wedding Banquet

Whilst I am not a food photographer, being born into Chinese culture means I can never ignore how deeply food connects to our traditions — and weddings are no exception.
I was fortunate enough to photograph a lovely couple’s wedding at an iconic Chinese restaurant in London. The setting was both traditional and elegant — filled with bright reds, golden accents, and meaningful details such as the tea ceremony setup and lion dance costumes on display.
The couple specifically requested me to capture the finer details of their wedding — the textures, colours, and emotions that brought the evening to life. Adding clarity and a velvety touch to these memories is something I truly enjoy — preserving real, heartfelt moments as couples celebrate one of the biggest milestones of their lives.
This shoot came with its own unique challenges. I was also tasked with photographing some of the key dishes as they came out of the kitchen — an honour, but also a race against time! Coordination with the restaurant staff was crucial, as once the food was served, I only had a few moments to capture it before guests began to enjoy it (and once that happened, the presentation would never be quite the same).
Due to privacy reasons, I cannot share all of the photographs from the evening — but here are a few highlights that showcase the warmth, joy, and cultural beauty of this incredible celebration.
