A Pop-Up Studio in a Cambridge Home – A Maternity & Family Story

It was late in August when I came across a request from a wonderful Hindi family in Cambridge who were looking for both a maternity shoot and family portraits. We had a quick chat on the phone and agreed on a date and time. Straight away, I could sense their main concern – the space in their lounge. Like many families, they weren’t sure if their home would be “good enough” for professional photography.

To ease their worries, I offered to do a quick survey of their home beforehand. Walking through their lounge, I could already picture how we could make the most of the space. They were so appreciative that I’d gone the extra mile to make sure everything would run smoothly on that day.

Two days before our session, I reconfirmed the details – something I always do to give my clients peace of mind. On the day itself, it didn’t take long to set up my Cambridge pop up studio. With one key light, a softer fill light, and a dual silver-and-gold reflector, I transformed their family lounge into a warm and vibrant home studio.

As soon as everything was ready, the family appeared in their traditional dresses. The colours were stunning – bright, rich, and full of life. Against the controlled studio light, their outfits truly came alive. I was excited from the very first frame, capturing both intimate maternity moments and lively family portraits.

This is exactly why I love working with a portable set-up: it brings the comfort of home together with the quality of a professional Cambridge studio. Clients don’t need to worry about travelling, feeling out of place, or spending a fortune on hiring a location. Sometimes, the best photographs happen right where people feel most at ease – at home.
